As chairman of the Computing in Construction Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers from 1989-1995 I helped organize and provided the leadership and drive for several congresses, conferences, tracks, and sessions, and recruited individuals and papers to create a forum for cutting-edge research in computer applications in civil engineering construction. These are too numerous to list in detail and include the International Conferences on Computing in Civil Engineering, the Congresses on Computing in Civil Engineering, and partly the Construction Congresses. This effort established computer applications as a dominant theme in ASCE construction-related conferences.

Martinez, J.C., Ioannou, P.G., “STROBOSCOPE,” state-of-the-art, graphical, programmable, object-oriented, resource-tracking, general-purpose, discrete-event simulation modeling system based on three-phase activity scanning and activity-cycle diagrams; applicable to processes in engineering (civil, industrial & operations, electrical, computer, manufacturing, etc.) and the service industries; used to teach simulation modeling and conduct research in a variety of areas; has become the undisputed standard for construction simulation modeling in the US and abroad; runs under 32-bit Windows (95, NT); 1995.

Ioannou, P.G., Moreno, M.G., “Electronic Photograph Database for Roofing Design Review System,” information system combining design criteria and photographs to support the Roofing Design Review System developed by the Corps of Engineers Construction Engineering Research Lab to allow the intelligent review of facility designs procured for the US Army; runs under Windows (95, NT); 1995.

Martinez, J.C., Ioannou, P.G., “ProbSched—State-Based Probabilistic CPM Scheduling” graphical simulation-based system for modeling probabilistic scheduling networks with state-based dynamic decision making; the only available tool of its type, it is used to teach and conduct research in stochastic project scheduling at universities in the US and abroad; runs under Windows (95, NT); 1996.

Yang, I.T. and P.G. Ioannou, “RP2—Repetitive Project Planner,” general-purpose graphical scheduling system for projects with activities repeating over discrete units (e.g., houses, floors, vertical construction) and/or continuous space (e.g., highways, pipelines, horizontal construction); RP2 is the only scheduling system for repetitive work in the world today, and represents a major breakthrough in the way billions of dollars can be planned and scheduled; runs under Windows (95, NT); 2002.
